Personality:
As a child, due to his past of being called a demon spawn and how things transpired prior to his arrival at the Hyakuya orphanage? Yuu started off as quite the cynical, moody and antisocial kid, wanting nothing to do with the other kids at first. He acted tough, trying to push others away from him initially, thinking he really wasn’t worth anyone’s love with how he was but it wasn’t like he didn’t want others to love him or anything of the sort.
Only when he starts to join Mikaela in being a sort of ‘big brother’ figure to the other kids, done moreso after the virus killed off the majority of humanity and the vampires had taken them underground? His personality shifted a bit and he became more aloof, stubborn but kind toward them all, but still happened to be hot-headed and reckless. Holding this incredible hatred towards vampires and not really thinking twice before trying to do what he can for others, at the risk it nearly got him killed.
During the incident where they all tried to escape and Yuu’s family was pretty much all slaughtered, leaving him to escape alone, he went back to being an antisocial rebel. All he wanted was to join the Demon Army and get a weapon that could kill vampires, his revenge so strong that it made everything else not matter in comparison in his eyes. Nothing else mattered to him. Telling Guren and Shinoa that he didn’t need friends as long as he could get the weapon he needed to get his revenge, lacking a sense of fear in pursuing his goals and giving him something of a notable one track mind. He’s also not quite known for his intelligence, to which has others calling him an idiot, but is otherwise a very empathetic person towards those who put their family first.
The guilt he felt over what happened to Mika and the other kids haunted him, leaving him ridden with a sense of guilt he couldn’t quite shake, to the point he had nightmares about it for years. It changed once he became friends with Shinoa and Yoichi and soon enough it’s clear that he does have a soft spot for his friends, putting them before his own goals.
Regarding the biggest change in who he is? It came after being made aware that Mika was alive and he started to look at things in a more mature manner, learning to be patient and make friends. He started to smile and laugh a lot more, opening up and putting that antisocial side of him in the past. Seeming rough around the edges is how he had seemed to some, getting into fist fights with Kimizuki at first but when the time came, it was Yuu who pushed him to go see his sister instead of pursuing the ‘test’ they were supposed to be doing for getting demon weapons. Yuu demonstrated his faith in Yoichi when the boy got possessed by his demon weapon at first, the other shooting at him but he remained calm and called out to him, bringing the other back to himself and allowing Yoichi to overcome his trial and come out successful in his acquiring a demon weapon. Despite his hardships, Yuu has a strong will and while a bit overconfident at times, shows he has a strong will and a good heart.
He’ll still kill vampires without question but has amended the way he views the world as to include Mika, wishing to save him before pursuing that overall goal of slaughtering the vampires. This boy has no problems in befriending the demon who could have taken over his body with ease, convincing the other to yield to him and it’s easy to see he gets along well with others without even really trying. In his eyes, priorities have shifted and his friends have become his new family which he strives to protect and keep safe, aiming for that rather than his initial goal to pursue his revenge in killing all vampires. He’s once said he doesn’t care what happens to him, as long as he can protect those he cares for, not wanting a repeat of events that have happened in the past. He’s good at remembering the names and faces of people he wants to help protect and work alongside with, as demonstrated with what he does with Narumi’s squad in Nagoya.
The only vampires he really cares to know the names and faces of are Mikaela, Crowley - who he later befriends to some extent when he finds out the other used to be human - and recognizes Ferid to some extent.
His stubborn pride is still there underneath all this though, as shown when he reunites with Mika in Nagoya and insists that he doesn’t want to lose Mika after finding him after all these years. This means convincing Mika to drink his blood and getting him to become a full-fledged vampire despite the other’s initial protests, and telling him that he’ll do whatever it is he can until he can return Mika to being a human someday. He’s also shown his stubborn nature in nearly killing himself taking pills that enhance one’s strength so he could go and save Guren from Crowley who’d captured him at the time. Desiring more strength to protect him, even if it started to affect his very humanity, and would have lost himself if Kimizuki and the others hadn’t come and interfered with what he was doing. It only got worse during the final confrontation in Nagoya where there was a seraph and an angel - kimizuki’s sister - who were causing deaths alongside a possessed Guren who even stabbed Yuu at this point. Something Yuu doesn’t even remotely hold against him, seeing him somewhat as a father figure in some form. He even completely sees the man as a nice person and just seems so nonplussed at the idea that the man does human experimentation by saying 'i'm sure he has good reasons for it.' and also calmly says he'll help with 'ressurrecting' the world. Same with that he has no qualms in killing people if he has to.
He selflessly is the type who stabbed himself with his own sword, embraced his inner seraph and that had to be reeled in by his demon - Ashuramaru - taking brief possession of Yuu’s body to put the Seraph out of commission so he’d stop rampaging out of control. Even after they escaped it got worse and the length of time his demon side came out only got longer and longer over the span of months. He doesn’t care really, saying he’ll still do whatever he can to protect his family, a selfless boy who’s sacrificial and doesn’t see his life really as something other than what he can give to protect others he cares for. Recklessly putting his own life on the line over and over in trying to eventually master his seraph and believing he can befriend vampires if they were humans once, getting along with Crowley and having absolutely no qualms in asking Mika if he needs to drink his blood.
Yuu smiles a lot more now, laughing and while still reckless? He’s moved past the boy he’d used to be and is very kind, loyal and strong-willed. This is the same boy who loves cars and shows rare moments of actually displaying his intelligence, and he won’t hesitate to help others if he thinks he can do so.
He’s no longer someone who holds heavy grudges against others unless they seem to truly deserve it, tending to laugh and brush off most things with ease. Still someone who’s fairly loud and is actually pretty illiterate but that’s not entirely to fault, rather blamed on the fact that he lived in the vampire city for about four years. Not that it’s put a damper on his otherwise now optimistic, kind person he’s become, however.
Abilities/Skills:
- Naturally fast and incredibly skilled with the use of a sword.
- Capable of taking out vampires and beasts much larger than himself
- He’s not human so he heals MUCH faster than an average person would (thanks to him being 1/10th Seraph and the other half being kind of a demon now?)
- Quick on his feet and very agile
- His inhumanity is nothing to scoff at; capable of probably slaughtering many people should his demonic side get out due to the mass amount of strength he’ll be able to utilize.
Cursed Gear/Sword skills:
-Capable of increasing his strength seven times more than average.
-Uses the power of the demon contract between him and Ashuramaru to use against opponents.
- Ashura-Kannon -- A technique that materializes dozens of floating swords that can be used to attack others.
